For pretty much as long as music has been around, people have been suckers for romantic music. Whether one is looking for just the right piece of music for ones date or one simply wishes to reminisce over “the good old days”, we love to listen to and buy romantic music. Though we’re only about a third into 2012, there is still a good deal of music out and coming out.

Take, for example, Scottish R&B singer Emeli Sande. Though a new arrival on the music scene, she is a rather talented singer. With a voice both powerful and mellifluous, she is clearly one of the more talented young musicians to come out the UK – let alone Scotland. Her newest album, Our Version of Events, was released in the UK on 13 February, and has become the second fastest-selling album of 2012, right behind Born to Die, the newest album by Lana del Rey.

While we’re there, let’s discuss miss del Rey. Though her performance on Saturday Night Live was one of the most widely panned appearances of any musical guest on the program, that has not stopped her album from selling over 1.5 million copies as of 29 February. Her style is a mixture of modern influences and retro sounds, and her voice clearly draws from such inspirations as Julie London. Lana del Rey, therefore, is one one of the best new artists to keep track of if your thing is romantic music.
